What's the right way of strumming with a guitar pick?

so i recently switched to acoustic guitar from classical. i never strummed with classical since it was nylon string. now i can%26#039;t make the pic sound good with the acousitc, it just sounds really loud and obnoxious? is there a certain way of holding it...?

yeeargh, please help!
What%26#039;s the right way of strumming with a guitar pick?
it takes some getting used to if you haven%26#039;t used a pick to play before..Hold it between your thumb and forefinger. don%26#039;t hold it too tight, allow it to move a bit..the type of pick makes a difference too..maybe start by using a very flexible pick and experiment from there. The pick technique uses more of the wrist as well, it depends on what you are playing..if it%26#039;s a rhythm part then more wrist is involved, for lead parts or riffing it%26#039;s more to do with the way the pick is used to pick out the strings..it%26#039;s actually very complicated when you try to explain it so I%26#039;ll shut up..I use both..for hard riffy playing or power chords picks work well but it can work well without any pick at all just using your fingernails to accentuate..Electric guitar makes a big dif too..but that%26#039;s something else..

Happy strumming and good luck :)
