Do you have to be trained to sing with vibrato??

Don%26#039;t know why you would train to sing with vibrato. Vibrato is a sign of no training at all.Almost as bad as Thru your nose singing. A nasal twang works for country however vibrato works with nothing.
Do you have to be trained to sing with vibrato??
No its a way to sing sort of like trilling on a instrument.Just do it.
Do you have to be trained to sing with vibrato??
Not necessarily, but training will help your technique to ensure that you%26#039;re not straining anything. It will also help you build power.

Don%26#039;t listen to Daisy. Vibrato is not a sign of no training. Do opera singers at the Met sing with untrained voices? I think not...

Having vibrato is a good tool. It%26#039;s not appropriate in all singing, but when you have solid control of it and can make artistic decisions about %26quot;how much vibrato%26quot; it will really enhance your singing.

Does anyone know a good song for me to sing?

Does anyone know a good song for me to sing?
It depends, I%26#039;m twelve also, and a girl, and i enjoy singing songs by the Naked Brothers Band, because thier songs go easy on your voice. I hope you do great! I like singing thier songs, %26quot;I%26#039;ll Do Anything%26quot;, and %26quot;I%26#039;ve got a question%26quot;.

White Christmas by Bing Crosby.

I need help with the guitar.?

I have a Classical or just plain Classic Acoustic guitar and I don%26#039;t know how to play it all that well. I can kinda play the very very easy songs but when I get into the harder songs It gets really really confusing. What should I know how to play before I get into guitar lessons.
I need help with the guitar.?
before you get into lessons? you don%26#039;t really need to know anything before taking lessons. lessons are supposed to teach you haha.

however, if you want to know a little before these lessons so you don%26#039;t feel clueless, learn some chords. grab a chord book or poster or find one on the internet. figure out a few chords (2 or 3), one by one and then slowly try and play them together once you know each chord pretty well.

once you can do that, try adding a few more chords, again, one at a time.

if you also look up a little bit of music theory on google, that can also help you understand the music. however, it can get confusing pretty fast and lessons will really help with that.

here%26#039;s an example of a chord chart:

What are some easy, but fun, guitar tabs for the acoustic guitar?

I%26#039;m a beginner at the guitar, but I know how to read tabs. Do you know any easy tabs I can play on the acoustic guitar?

Thanks!
What are some easy, but fun, guitar tabs for the acoustic guitar?
Well, I guess some default easy guitar tabs are Oasis - Wonderwall, and Our Lady Peace - Superman%26#039;s Dead. I usually go to 911tabs.com. This site has every tab you could want.
What are some easy, but fun, guitar tabs for the acoustic guitar?
Hey There!

Well to begin with you want to be learning to play small riffs, or the basic chords to a song so you can play along with it.

For example when I began playing I learnt to read tab and then searched all the basic guitar chords (A,B,C,D,E,F,G %26amp; Am,Bm,Cm,Dm,Em,Fm,Gm) %26quot;m means minor%26quot;. Once I had learnt these I began playing small songs such as the %26quot;james bond%26quot; riff.. Or something like (Smoke on the water - deep purple)

All of these tabs can be easily found on the following websites:

www.ultimate-guitar.com

www.guitaretab.com/

www.guitarzone.com/

www.911tabs.com/

PS you may also want to watch some video lessons on YouTube.com.

Hope this helps yah!

How much could my band get payed?

we are going on tour in july for about 2 months (maneger said 1 and a half)but w.e.

we just started, this is our first tour.....is it possible to get about $36,000 by the end of the tour?(the band will split the money three ways)
How much could my band get payed?
I guess it depends on where you%26#039;re booked and what you get paid, but my experience is you%26#039;ll be lucky to make less than half of that.
How much could my band get payed?
Depends on how many shows you%26#039;re playing in that 2 months. $36,000 for 1 1/2 months? Thats making $6,000 a week? Maybe, depends on how much whoever is in charge of your booking set your fee.

If you%26#039;re not in the loop of how much each venue is paying you, then only your manager will know. Cos at the end of the day, the venue pays your booking agent or manager, and after taking their cuts, the rest goes to you guys. Oh ya, and your tour costs might cut that amount too, if it%26#039;s not already covered (i.e. accommodations, travel expenses, etc)

Maybe it%26#039;s good to ask your manager about these things too. I don%26#039;t know what your professional relationship is with your manager, or if you%26#039;re comfortable talking dollars and cents with him/her.

But don%26#039;t be left out of the loop on the finance side of things. Make sure you know at least what%26#039;s happening, what you%26#039;re entitled to, what portion of income generated by the tour should you keep (booking fee, % of merch sales etc) etc.

Don%26#039;t be taken for a ride and the tour manager and booking agents takes more % than they should. It%26#039;s your band!

Hope this helps! And good luck with the tour!

Touring is probably one of the highlights of being in a band.

I Just bought a acoustic guitar,do you need learn to read sheet music to play guitar?

I bought a Montana acoustic guitar because I want to learn to play the guitar. I just listen to music and do not know anything about music notes or anything. I have beginner books that teach you about music notes, staffs and all of that but do you have to learn that to be able to play guitar or just read guitar notes. As a person with no music kno how sheet music is hard to understand but guitar notes are really easy to understand. Would I benefit in the future from learning to read sheet music? Are can i just ignore that and move on and it would be fine?

Another question is how long would it take me to be able to play guitar given that I practice 20mins a day every day ?
I Just bought a acoustic guitar,do you need learn to read sheet music to play guitar?
I did the same thing. don%26#039;t worry, you will enjoy trying to learn how to play but you will never learn unless you have thousands of dollars to invest in real lessons.

that guitar will soon be dusting up in the corner.
I Just bought a acoustic guitar,do you need learn to read sheet music to play guitar?
absolutely not, there are plenty of people who can play who can%26#039;t read music.

Can it help you in the future? Of course it can.

Steve Martin said he learned banjo by watching a tape and imitating the fingering
Reply:There are many players who do not read music, and simply %26quot;play by ear%26quot;. If you have enough musical talent that you can play a song after hearing it without sheet music, then you don%26#039;t have to. If not, I would definitely recommend learning how to.
Reply:You don%26#039;t NEED to learn sheet music but it would help.

You can just do the tab and be fine.

:]
Reply:There are plenty of great guitar players that can not read sheet music. So is the skill to be able to read sheet music necesarry? No. But would that skill be beneficial. Of course it would be. Being able to read sheet music only further widens your possiblities and potential as a guitar player. I think that guitar tabs are a perfectly acceptable version of guitar music, and i read them. I do also read guitar sheet music. Being able to read and understand sheet music and musical notes will better help you understand the chords. If you ignore sheet music, you can still be a fine guitar player, but i recomend learning it. It is a lot easier to learn it if you have guitar lessons, or a friend who knows how to read sheet music and plays guitar.

Given how much you practice, you could probably become a good guitar player in a few months. I have only been playing guitar for 6 months and I do know plenty of songs. I practice as much or maybe more than you, just not for a set time. Some days i practice for 10 minutes, some I get on a roll learning a song and practice for 2 hours. And some days I don%26#039;t practice at all. I%26#039;m on more of a relaxed schedual of learning guitar. As your skill level begins to increase, and it will if you continue practicing, you will play more most likely. Just keep practicing and you will learn to play guitar well.
Reply:you definitely could benefit from reading sheet music. i learned how to read sheet music on the piano and now i play guitar.

that being said, i don%26#039;t often use sheet music for guitar. i can read it, i know what the notes are, i know what the notes on my guitar are, but I cannot pick up a piece of sheet music and play it very well right away. i can look at sheet music and play it on the piano fairly quickly, but without my sense of %26quot;middle C%26quot; on a piano, it doesn%26#039;t do a whole lot for me with guitar.

so no, you don%26#039;t need to know how to read sheet music to play guitar at all.

beginner books are great. also look into finding a chord book and maybe some music theory books.

20 minutes a day isn%26#039;t all that much. i mean i guess it depends on what you%26#039;re practicing over those 20 minutes. when i practice, i play songs, so 20 minutes goes by in no time. however, just getting to know the basics, you should have a decent understanding in a couple weeks.

what i did to start (self taught) was to take a chord book, pick 3 chords (i choose A,E, D but you can choose whatever) and play each one by itself. get used to the fingering and strum away. once you think you%26#039;ve got each of them down, trying strumming and switching between those 3 chords. i then found a song that had those 3 chords and then tried to play along. it took me about a week and a bit practicing an hour a day to get really good at those 3 chords.

once you%26#039;ve got them down, trying adding a chord a day or something. eventually, you should have a good grasp of the chords and will be able to chord your way along almost any song.

the best thing to do is just enjoy it. try not to get too frustrated and be patient. it takes a while, but it feels great when you can play. 4 years later for me and i absolutely love it.

enjoy!

also, here%26#039;s a chord chart like the one i used when i first started:

http://www.mmissary.com/guitar~1.gif
Reply:sheet music isnt necessary but u do need to know how to read tab if u want to be more efficient... well depending on how well you comprehend stuff depends on how long it would take to learn guitar... i am a 17 yr old and i just started playing guitar this past september im not that good but i know my basic stuff... most songs use the basic chords like A,G,D,E,C they are very simple and can help you even write your own music. sheet music isnt necessary TAB music is more efficient because it will give you the string and what fret to play on it... it might be a good thing to learn the names of the strings because that way you will be able to just follow along with the tab sheet music... there are multiple places where you can get tab music... i use www.chordie.com but it depends u can also just google it... even thought you dont have any musical experience doesnt mean that you cant learn something new you just gotta keep up with it and not give up....

good luck
Reply:No way!! Playing the guitar is about enjoyment. You dont HAVE to be able to read music to enjoy the guitar. Look at Slash. He couldnt read music but he%26#039;s not that badder guitarist ;)

Rock Guitar Solo for one guitar?

I%26#039;m looking for a website where I can find guitar solos. But I don%26#039;t mean the kind of solos you hear in most rock songs. I mean a song that can be played entirely by one guitar. Cello help?

Okay so I%26#039;ve been playing my cello for a year at school and I only know how to tune it with the fine tuners. My G string is all... wobbly and the fine tuners won%26#039;t do anyting for that. I really need to practice. Can you tell me how to use the pegs?
Cello help?
1) Check to see that its wound properly in the peg box. Is the string wrapped snugly against the pegbox, nicely wrapped, one loop after the other or is it piled atop each other, and spread out? If its not nicely wrapped, restring it. That will effect the staying power of the string.

2) When you tune, push in while you turn. You%26#039;ll also want to tune about a half a step higher than you want the string to be because when you get the rest of the strings tune, the tension will bring the string down to its proper pitch.

3) Make sure your fine tuners are loosened pretty well before you use the pegs or else you%26#039;ll have no where to tune!

What to look for in a guitar teacher?

Hi I live in Houston and there are so many different people and ways to learn guitar but whats good and what should I look for--Suggestions?
What to look for in a guitar teacher?
definitely someone who knows their stuff

but you also want to find someone who is friendly and someone who can encourage you along, but be able to give you constructive criticism and not be afraid to be honest about your strengths and weaknesses.

it%26#039;s essential when playing guitar to find those weaknesses so you can correct them.

look for someone who is also good at explaining things, demonstrating, and teaching. it would be horrible if you got lessons from an amazing guitarist who couldn%26#039;t explain to you what to do!
What to look for in a guitar teacher?
You should look for a guitar teacher who plays the style that you like and would like to play.
Reply:hxchink has provided an excellent answer and I totally agree. Just want to add one quality that ANY instructor should have and that is patience. You can just imagine why...

Kabum
Reply:Look for someone who is classically trained. Even if this isn%26#039;t their main style of playing (I know a guy who plays death metal and is extremely competent with classical music) or the type of music you want to learn, this is the sign of a good teacher. This is because that is the most musical type of playing, and if you can play that, you can play anything. This is also the most advanced type of music, so if you ever wanted to move into learning that eventually you would be able too. And if they have mastered classical guitar it means they have been very well trained themselves. Beyond that, the most important thing is someone you would enjoy spending a half hour of your time with every week and someone who will keep you motivated to continue to play.

Can someone explain to me how the fingering for trumpet works?

I%26#039;m teaching myself how to play trumpet and i have a fingering chart. Can you explain the valves and how to change octaves?
Can someone explain to me how the fingering for trumpet works?
Well if you have a fingering chart, the holes that are black on the chart are the valves that are pushed down when you play...when you push down different combinations of valves, it make s the air you blow go through the trumpet longer take a longer time or a shorter time, which changes the pitch...

To change octaves you need to be able to tighten and loosen your lips...this take alot of time and practice, so just focus on the mid range octave for now and practice your scales and arpeggios

For example there are valves 1,2,3 if your fingering chart was like x o x you would push down the 1 and 3 valve 3 being the one farthest from your face....this would result in a D

Guitar is easier or quicker to learn than key board.right?

for a beginner who wants to be a musician which should be instrument of choice...please give reasons
Guitar is easier or quicker to learn than key board.right?
Keyboard is easier to learn in my opinion xxxxxx
Guitar is easier or quicker to learn than key board.right?
i personally think that the piano is much easier
Reply:I play both, and I think they are equally difficult to master. The guitar, however, gives one more freedom to create their own style, I think.
Reply:They say it is-- Who are they? I can teach people how to play the piano in 2 days. The guitar seems hard to me, cuz the srtings hurt my fingers. Once you learn the chord on piano or guitar- the rest is easy!
Reply:keyboard, it is much easier than guitar because you dont have to memorize tricky chords, you can always just harmonize by skipping a key on the keyboard
Reply:Learn keyboard, and then guitar. Then you%26#039;ll have very good knowledge of notation and theory. This makes it so much easier to play guitar.
Reply:dought it i think they sre both hard. maybe thats cuz i am musiclly challenged.
Reply:guitar would be easier cause you don%26#039;t have to learn base cleft but it would give you calases

opposite for piano
Reply:keyboard is easier to learn for many reasons

all the notes on the keyboard are right in front of you which makes it easier to learn

and keyboard doesnt give you calluses which makes it easier to play

but guitar is by far more fun

just my opinion on things...

NOT GUITAR

end of story
Reply:that deepends

i learned how to play both around the same time

the music for gutair is written differently so i would say its easier, like easier to read

but it can take a lot of prectice to switch quicky so it flows and make it sound good

i can play some songs nice and switch but is still doesnt sound good because of the fingering i have to learn to do with the pick

the piano is hard and takes a lot of work

but once you learn how to read the music and use ur fingers well

it so much fun and you can play anthing

i think it isnt a question of which is easier. becasue every instrament is hard and takes a lot of practice

i think it is more a question of what you like better. which one feels better. what kinda person you are

i hope that helped a little
Reply:I play piano, and I found out from different ppl, that if u learn to play piano/keyboard FIRST before anyother instrument, that it%26#039;s easier to learn the others... In my opinion I think that piano is one of, if not the hardest instrument to play, I learned to play when I was 5, and have been playing (of and on) for 8 years, by of and on, I mean that I did%26#039;nt play for a few weeks here and there. That%26#039;s just what me and a few other ppl say, on my dad%26#039;s side of the family (over 60 people, and that%26#039;s just aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents) all (I think) play atleast one instrument, and they all (I think) Play piano/keyboard, some play other things as well, but not before they learned piano! K, so this was alot, but I hope it helped!

P.S. my aunt is a piano teacher, so trust me.... not that she said any of this, but still!...
Reply:The guitar is one of the hardest instruments to learn. I taught myself piano and guitar when I was younger. The piano took way less time than the guitar did.
Reply:key be boardy poo!

.
Reply:You should go with the instrument that you want to learn. How easy or difficult it is should not be a factor. Nothing worth doing well is easy.
Reply:If you really want to be a musician, then you need to learn music. You can take any instrument and learn music.. The question is, which route will be easiest for YOU. There are no %26quot;easy%26quot; instruments, but some will seem easier than others if you are enjoying yourself. Ask YOURSELF which instrument you%26#039;d really like to learn. I could tell you to learn the keyboard, but if you%26#039;re a guitar person, learning music will be a lot harder than it should be and you will most likely quit like 95% of everyone else who claims they %26quot;want to be a musician.%26quot;

So if you feel like learning the bass clarinet looks interesting, choose that. You can sound great with ANY instrument if you know what you%26#039;re doing.

But, if like the 95% group I mentioned before, you want to be a %26quot;musician%26quot; to look cool and pick up chicks, go with the guitar.

What should be least size of fingers to play guitar?

my fingers are short in size

i find difficulty in playing F cord,...
What should be least size of fingers to play guitar?
just keep practicing it wil stretch and become easier

there is loads of people with small fingers that play ,

try getting a guitar with a thinner neck

.

.
What should be least size of fingers to play guitar?
Look for a guitar with smaller frets

No problem
Reply:I think you mean %26quot;minimum%26quot; (not %26quot;least%26quot;) and the fact of the matter is, there is none. I teach 8-year-olds how to play the guitar, and eventually, they can play the F chord.

You will also learn that there are many different ways to play an F chord, and some are a heck of a lot easier than that 133211 version. However, I%26#039;m not going to tell you what they are because you really SHOULD know the standard F chord.

Hang in there! It just takes practice.

Guitar Pickups or Pedal?

Ok, I have a normal washburn steel string acustic guitar. I watched this video on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJC7nTqoJE%26amp;f... It is called canon in d. I want to get that sort of sound. Now first of all what is a pickup and a pedal. What is the best type of pedal and/or pickup to get? WATCH THE YOUTUBE VIDEO AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK WOULD BE THE BEST PICKUP/ PEDAL TO GET THIS SOUND AND WHAT THE BEST QUALITY ONE IS.
Guitar Pickups or Pedal?
1. A %26quot;Pickup%26quot; on your guitar is what %26quot;picks up%26quot; the vibration and sound from the strings when you strum them.

There are 2 type of basic %26quot;Pickups%26quot; on guitars...one type is called a %26quot;SINGLE COIL%26quot; pickup...the second type is called a %26quot;HUMBUCKER%26quot; pickup. A HUMBUCKER is bascially

2 %26quot;SINGLE COIL%26quot; pickups connected together for a bigger sound overall. With a Humbucker pickup you get a more fatter %26amp; thicker tone to your guitar than with Single Coil pickup.

You use guitars with pickups %26amp; run them through guitar amps

to bring out their sound of the guitar. That is why there are %26quot;Acoustic/Electric guitars%26quot;...that are basically Acoustic guitars with pickups in them so you can play them through an amp.

2. A Pedal is what hook up your electric guitar thorugh and it changes the sound of your guitar while going through an amp.

There are different types of pedals effects for your guitar like:

1. %26quot;Overdrive%26quot; pedals

2. %26quot;Chorus%26quot; pedals

3. %26quot;Flanger%26quot; pedals

4. %26quot;Delay%26quot; pedals

5. %26quot;Loop%26quot; pedals

6. %26quot;Distortion%26quot; pedals

Each pedal produces a certain sound or effect on your guitar.

Honeslty, you really have to experiment yourself to find

%26quot;Your own unique sound%26quot; when it comes to using %26quot;pickups%26quot; %26amp; %26quot;pedals%26quot; . No 2 guitarists have the same identical sound.

Honeslty, I dont how to get that sound on the Youtube vid...

I%26#039;m more of a metal guitarist so I dont know what type of pickups or pedals he%26#039;s using he has on his guitar. But, I do know that Fishman %26amp; Dean Markley make high quality Acoustic Guitar Pickups....and they aren%26#039;t cheap either. Here are the links to see them

Boarding School Help?

I hate my school and I dont really get along with my family. I want to go to boarding school and my parents said that its ok. The problem is that I cant afford it. I%26#039;m an A student but not an A+ so scholarships are a little hard. Any advice? and please dont say you should just go to ur regular school and forget about boarding school.
Boarding School Help?
Well this is going to be hard because you obviously will only listen to what you want to hear. You are basically going to have to get an A+ average which means; sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice!!! That means you will have to sacrifice going out with friends, dances, and extra curricular activities to study. You will also have to learn to politic (make convincing arguments to your teacher) to get the grade you want. This is a negotiation process.

What type of pieces do piano virtuosos start out on?

And they just normal pieces an average joe starts out on.
What type of pieces do piano virtuosos start out on?
If you had to ask the greatest artists today what they played when they started, you would find an astoundingly amount of correlation. Some of them WORKED their way through that pile of exercises and literature, and some of them sailed through at a pace that the rest of us find incredible - but there is a HUGE PILE of stuff that everyone knows. If you look at any decent graded lists of piano music, you could deduce their path yourself. However, they all did this with the proper TEACHER - there may be a few savants who seemingly play anything without previous education, but they usually hit a wall - and have gaps in their technique, and their expression is often mechanical or non-existent.

Going to Juilliard?
i think ur rly good but juilliard is like the amazingness school isnt it? like, idk, i dont think this was ur best video but ur voice has a LOT of potential. if i was u i wouldnt give up on ur dream of going to juilliard :]
Going to Juilliard?
i dont know. it%26#039;s only classical there, can you sing opera?

and you probably could go, but i think it would greatly diminish your chances of getting in at that age. they prefer younger students

What would you pay for a second hand soprano sax?

Someone I know has a soprano saxophone for sale. She%26#039;s played it once and then decided she%26#039;d prefer a straight one! I know her personally so I know this is true. It has a hard case and everything else included.

I%26#039;m interested in buying it off her. She%26#039;s asking æ‹¢300, is this a fair price? If not what would you pay.

(I%26#039;m in UK)
What would you pay for a second hand soprano sax?
Yes - that sounds more than fair.

I bought my E flat alto with 4 months of real use about 12 years ago for more than that.
What would you pay for a second hand soprano sax?
what%26#039;s the make of the sax?

where did she buy it?

what is the rrp?

MAKE SURE YOU PLAY IT FIRST... check the tone, play a scale making sure all the valves are in place... NO LEAKS

then ask yourself ... would you sell your saxophone after one play, because you preferred %26#039;a straight on%26#039;... doesn%26#039;t make too much sense, ooh and better question

DO I TRUST THIS PERSON?
Reply:I think it sounds like a good deal. You know her personally, so she%26#039;s not trying to rip you off or anything. I%26#039;d check it out just to be 100% sure, but it sounds like a great deal. Have fun!

How did Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan make an impact on the western world?
His work with musicians such as Michael Brook, Eddie Vedder, %26amp; Peter Gabriel, helped familiarize the West with Qawwali (Sufi devotional music).

Both his traditional Qawwali material, and his more improvisational and experimental work found appreciative audiences worldwide.

Beginning Guitar?

I want to start learning how to play guitar. Any suggestions on which one I should get? Preferably, an electric one. Also, any tips on books or other items I should get would be very helpful. Thank you.
Beginning Guitar?
of course acoustic dude i mean at first i though about electric because it was cool but found out that acoustic is a good guitar to get when your beggining and common who the freak uses base any way
Beginning Guitar?
ok you will have to start with an acoustic or acoustic/electric and you%26#039;ll want to go to a music store and buy the hal leonard book 1,2, and 3 and just go through them yourself or with a teacher
Reply:yeah uh dude start with an accoustic guitar first. um for the most part almost any guitar will help you out to learn, but never hesitate to ask the salesperson which one they would recommend for a beginner. and well um any book with a good selection of chords and rhythm patterns and even possibly a cd to demoinstrate the exercises would be good enough for beginning. also there are a lot of sites set up to help people learn guitar don%26#039;t be afraid to check them out. some aren%26#039;t that great but there are a lot of good ones. so make sure you check the site closely to see if it is really worth looking at to learn something.
Reply:I gotta say acoustic as well. I learnt on an acoustic for a good year before I got an electric and when I got my electric, i found the learning curve on it so much easier because the strings are easier to fret, etc.

I read a few leasons on http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitar... and also got a book called K.I.S.S Guide To Playing Guitar. They were good for me but real lessons from teachers is the best way to go.

Enjoy it!!! :D
Reply:Definitely start with an acoustic. Learn all the chords first. That will make the electric a breeze
Reply:I recommend Fender Tele or Strat.

i%26#039;ve been playin just a little short while and it%26#039;s wat they reccommend for beginners. you can always trade your acoustic later on if you want an electric. this is the acoustic/electric that i got.

Music Gig?

Yes, I am an aspiring musician. I sing and play the piano and I am trained in both....I just wanna know how do I get a gig at a local place. My friend was going to get me one, but he recently moved back in with his father. I am pretty much stuck now. Can anyone help me?
Music Gig?
Here are a few ways you could get some gigs -

Open Mic Night - To get some gigs, start off playing open mic nights at local clubs. Not only will this give you a little experience on stage, you%26#039;ll actually have an audience to play a gig or show for. Also, many open mic nights are hosted by more established local bands or indie acts. You could make valuable contacts for the future with the hosting bands and other local bands playing in the show. Check your local music newspapers or music websites to find this info. This is a great starting point to play gigs and shows in your area.

Offer to Open for Free - The reality is that your not going to get paid when you first start out. Your not in it for the money anyway right, your there for the music. Offer to be an opening band for free for a local band you know or maybe met at an open mic night. Maybe even e-mail a more established indie band in the area, and play an opening gig for them. Many indie bands love opening acts, because you don%26#039;t have to pay them much, and they don%26#039;t have to play as long of a show. This is the time to start promoting your garage band too. Hand out business cards and Press Kits to any clubs you play. Make sure to follow up with the venue with a call or e-mail to make sure they get back to you. Be persistent, because booking agents are always getting approached by prospective indie bands.

Solicit your Press Kit - Now that you%26#039;ve played gigs at your open mic nights, you want to start calling clubs and soliciting your Press Kit and Demo. Its a good idea to start going to clubs that play your style of music and talk with the booker for the club. Leave a Press Kit with your Demo CD and give him a day or two to listen to it. Now call back and get some feedback. Ask for the gig or show for your band. Again, Be persistent.

Approaching town fairs, county festivals, or city free concert venues is another way to get exposure is to gig for a large audience at a Local Fair or Festival. Most of these gigs you would play for free to get exposure, but some do pay once you get a following. Do some research on the internet etc, to see what local agencies take care of bookings for your festival or fair. Again, give out your local band business cards at the show. This is good promotion in case someone may want to book your indie music act in the future.

Hope this helps.

Help with my drumkit?

i am a 14 year old beginner, and when i hear songs and then try and play, my drums sounds nothing like the drums in the song, how can i change the sound? especially base drum, when i tap the pedal, it makes a huge boom!
Help with my drumkit?
You can tighten the tension rod. Or place bean sacks in the base drum where it is open, have you ever seen it? And take a drum lesson and ask a professional.
Help with my drumkit?
The drums that you hear in the songs have been recorded then mixed, so that they fit in with the rest of the music. Focus on playing for now.
Reply:My advice would be to visit your local music shop. They should be able to help you.

My brother, a professional drummer, had all sorts of tricks to change the tone of the drum kit. Tightening the skins will alter the sound, as will changing the drum peddle. Also placing some sound absorbing material in the bass drum can help reduce the boom (blanket or something similar).

But what you hear on a CD is very different to what you can achieve with an instrument in the cold light of day. Working in a recording studio with all the technical skills available can make the sound of an instrument perfect to the ear.

Hope some of this helps.

xx
Reply:Ello young drummer !! All sorts of tricks n techniques are used in the studio..if you took your kit into a studio it would sound completely different once it%26#039;s been processed through the desk and outboard effects..But don%26#039;t let that bother you right now, I would say listen to your fave drummers and get practicing the beats with them, play along to records..I started with Jon Bonham and James Brown..If you can play along with those guys then you%26#039;re alright !! Have fun, and to lose some of that boomyness put a pillow inside the kick drum resting slightly on the drum head..that%26#039;ll sort it, but boomyness is good !!

Most of all HAVE FUN !!!

:)
Reply:The most simple easiest instant fix ah-ha! gaffer tape/eletrical tape. Simple temporary damper. Stick some on and smile.

Guys in studios always have a different idea than I do about how my drums should sound, so leave it up to them when you record but meantime yes, you can dampen your skins (lol) with a pillow leaned up against the bass drum (you don%26#039;t need to take the outside skin off) or tape as I said....

Hey - and I%26#039;m damn good on a kit too, if I say so myself. Played on the same stage as the Stranglers once. Yeah, I know %26quot;Who are they?%26quot;

You smart young kids.

Keep practising huh? You%26#039;ll get there.
Reply:You can try focusing on learning how to tune your drums...

IF you don%26#039;t how to tune your drums....you%26#039;re gonna have to learn how to tune them because that%26#039;s how you change the sound of each drum on your drum kit...whether you want to them sound higher or lower in sound.

Also, you can Moongel ( those little blue squares used for dampening drums) on them or you can use Duct tape too.

Every drummer ( guy or girl ) is different in how they tune or dampen their drums. Experiment with tuning your drums higher and lower to see how you like the sounds. That%26#039;s one of the most fun things to with drums...tuning them. Remember not to tune them too high otherwise you will break a drum head.

Here are some cool drum sites to check out

www.midwestpercussion.com

www.westcoastdrumcenter.com

www.ddrum.com

www.paiste.com

www.tama.com

www.promarkdrumsticks.com

Hope this helps %26amp; keep on drumming!
Reply:Well sometimes the songs you hear are enhanced and the drums don%26#039;t sound exactly like when they sound live. On the bass drum you can put in a little rag to muffle it so it won%26#039;t make that big boomy sound. When you put the little rag inside the bass drum, don%26#039;t let the rag touch the front bass drum head. Your bass drum will sound more dead when you do that. Never put a pillow inside your bass drum either. Unless it is very small.

What's the right way of strumming with a guitar pick?

so i recently switched to acoustic guitar from classical. i never strummed with classical since it was nylon string. now i can%26#039;t make the pic sound good with the acousitc, it just sounds really loud and obnoxious? is there a certain way of holding it...?

yeeargh, please help!
What%26#039;s the right way of strumming with a guitar pick?
it takes some getting used to if you haven%26#039;t used a pick to play before..Hold it between your thumb and forefinger. don%26#039;t hold it too tight, allow it to move a bit..the type of pick makes a difference too..maybe start by using a very flexible pick and experiment from there. The pick technique uses more of the wrist as well, it depends on what you are playing..if it%26#039;s a rhythm part then more wrist is involved, for lead parts or riffing it%26#039;s more to do with the way the pick is used to pick out the strings..it%26#039;s actually very complicated when you try to explain it so I%26#039;ll shut up..I use both..for hard riffy playing or power chords picks work well but it can work well without any pick at all just using your fingernails to accentuate..Electric guitar makes a big dif too..but that%26#039;s something else..

Happy strumming and good luck :)

I need help with conducting for my Drum Major audition...?

I need some help with enunciation. I just need a general technique to enunciate the trumpets%26#039; parts, as they sort of jump in every once in a while and are different from any other parts (sorry thats the best way I could explain it). This is just for one part of the song, as I am ok with the rest.
I need help with conducting for my Drum Major audition...?
Remember you want to cue a beat before the trumpets come in, and sometimes you can%26#039;t cue everyone. So you%26#039;ll have to pick which one is more important in the song. I would chose which ever has the most important cue needed. I would have to see the music to show it to you. Remember theres different ways to cue. You can use your left hand to cue, or if you want to use mirror style conducting (both hands) just accent on which beat they would come in. Also body expression is important, use your face as a cue, as a prep beat telling the trumpets where to breath to come in, when I have to cue a lot of people i tend to lean forward as a little cue.

Can someone help me right a song that a girl can sing?
You need to give more information. Think about things that interest you. I think of tunes and things when i am singing in the shower. :p

Anyway it will come to you, you just have to wait, think of some tunes, write them down, and then the words should come.

Oh, and do you play an instrument? That would help with the tune to make it flow.

Hope this helps. :D
Can someone help me right a song that a girl can sing?
Hun, I need WAY more info than that to answer the question. Is the girl an alto or soprano? What is this song for? What genre does the girl enjoy singing? Is she intermediate or beginner?

Email me at nogoodeed@gmail.com with the answers for those questions and I%26#039;ll get back to you.

Do Gibson make good quality acoustic guitar strings?

I saw some of there strings at Guitar Center and I thought %26quot;since they make good guitars, why not good strings?%26quot; i%26#039;m looking for very good strings for my acoustic guitar. What do you think of their strings?
Do Gibson make good quality acoustic guitar strings?
very good!
Do Gibson make good quality acoustic guitar strings?
how much? just cause there names on the package dosent mean they made themI tried the elixirs at the request of my local shop owner, now I use nothing else, about 18 bucks, try em you%26#039;ll like em
Reply:they are pretty good but their nylon strings aren%26#039;t the best so i%26#039;d get copper-wrapped.
Reply:no...go with elixer strings, they are by far the best
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t trust them.. Gibson makes by far the best guitars, but i don%26#039;t know about the strings. I use Ernie Ball Earthwood silk %26amp; steel for my acoustic and I love them. They have a soft feel, good sound, and they last a long time. The elixirs are good, but very expensive.

Bassoon...?

Okay, well I am going to start playing bassoon, right now I am FREAKING OUT! I HAVE 6 WEEKS TO LEARN 2 YEARS WORTH OF BASSOON!!!!! HELP ME! GIVE ME TIPS!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME! How can I start, what is the embouchure, how do you blow, how hard, and any misc. info.
Bassoon...?
Don%26#039;t worry. Getting for band next year, hmm? :) Good luck!

I suggest you get all the Standard of Excellence books for bassoon (I believe there are 3). I was in the same rut you were in earlier, and they definitely helped me. You have to blow with force, but don%26#039;t blow too hard. I actually suggest you start off with a plastic reed. It really helped me, and then a few weeks later, once I got used to the embouchure, I graduated to cane reeds. Also, I%26#039;ve found it easier to use the neck strap instead of the seat strap. It%26#039;s a bit easier to play with and position.

Just don%26#039;t worry. Chill out and practice leisurely for about 2 hours every day for the summer (not all at once; maybe an hour in the morning, half an hour before lunch, and then another half an hour before dinner or something like that). You will absorb so much that way. It%26#039;s great because you don%26#039;t even have to learn the bass clef or anything since you already play bass clarinet. :) I wish you the best of luck, and have fun with your bassoon!
Bassoon...?
uh well like i was kinda in your

position and basically practice on your reed and make sure you make a crowing noise cause if you don%26#039;t play your reed u cant play the instrument and make sure you practice basic scales because a scale is a good way to get in all the notes in and u my also want to buy a tuner so u can make sure are playing the notes right and VERY VERY important watch ur fingers and where u place them on the top hand make sure u don%26#039;t press down ur middle finger arc it and press and on ur bottom hand make sure u don%26#039;t rest ur thumb away from the keys place it on them with out pressing them cause if u dont yull be comstanly moving ur thumb compared to slithly moving it also practice playing ur C on ur boucle

make sure ur reed is wet.. put your mouthpiece in a bowl of warm water and then clean it.. it makes it easier.
Reply:Make sure to clean your clarinet most of the times after you use it, and warm up before you play. And keep your clarinet%26#039;s mouthpiece nice and wet before you play. Before you play the clarinet be sure your reed doesn%26#039;t have any crack because if it has a crack your clarinet will not sound good, it will sound kinda awkward and squeaky. :)
