Can someone explain to me how the fingering for trumpet works?

I%26#039;m teaching myself how to play trumpet and i have a fingering chart. Can you explain the valves and how to change octaves?

Well if you have a fingering chart, the holes that are black on the chart are the valves that are pushed down when you play...when you push down different combinations of valves, it make s the air you blow go through the trumpet longer take a longer time or a shorter time, which changes the pitch...

To change octaves you need to be able to tighten and loosen your lips...this take alot of time and practice, so just focus on the mid range octave for now and practice your scales and arpeggios

For example there are valves 1,2,3 if your fingering chart was like x o x you would push down the 1 and 3 valve 3 being the one farthest from your face....this would result in a D
